The syllabus focuses upon natural movement and co-ordination and forming the basis of ballet technique. The children are also able to use props such as wands, ribbons, pom-poms and scarves and use their imaginations to create stories through dance and mime.
Children will only take the intermediate class if they are considering dance as a career. Students must have the type of body that can respond to the demanding intermediate syllabus. This includes a good level of turnout, flexibility, core strength and strong technique developed from the previous grades.
For intermediate exams students must travel to approved venues in the UK such as London, Newcastle or Manchester. It is recommended to take two or more ballet classes a week at this level to be able to cope with the amount of work in the syllabus.
These classes create a positive learning environment, encouraging proper classroom etiquette. Children develop fitness, strength and stamina as well as developing correct posture, placement and alignment.
