FAQs
Below is a list of some of our frequently asked questions

Gereral
What age can my child start dance classes?
Our classes start from age 2 with our pre school Princess ballet classes. Classes at the main school start when the child has started part time (1/2 days) at school (Nursery class)
Do you offer trial classes?
Yes. New students are welcome to book a trial class before committing to regular attendance. Trial classes can be booked through our website.
Do children need dance experience to join?
No prior dance experience is required for our beginner classes (Tiny, Mini, and Junior age groups). These classes are designed for children who are new to dance and focus on building confidence, coordination, and basic dance skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Our Graded classes are intended for children who already have dance experience and have spent time developing their technique. As these classes follow a structured syllabus and progress at a faster pace, we are not always able to accommodate beginners within them.
Children are welcome to attend a trial class so we can help determine the most suitable level. However, depending on experience and class availability, we may not always have a class that is the right fit.
Do I need to buy a uniform straight away?
No. Children can attend their first classes in comfortable clothing before purchasing dancewear.
Can parents stay and watch the class?
This depends on the class and age group. For younger children, parents are invited to stay nearby or watch during the first sessions to help children settle.
Are staff DBS checked?
Yes. All staff working with children hold appropriate safeguarding checks where required.
Performances
Do all students take part in the show?
All students are invited to take part in our annual show, except for the acro classes. Participation is encouraged as it is a wonderful opportunity for children to perform, build confidence, and celebrate everything they have learned.

Is participation in the show compulsory?
No, taking part in the show is optional. However, most students choose to participate as it is a fun and rewarding experience.

How much do costumes cost?
We always aim to keep costume costs as affordable as possible and will inform parents well in advance of any costs.
To help keep expenses low, costumes are usually provided by the school and hired for the performance rather than purchased. We normally charge a small hire fee of around £5 per costume. This helps parents avoid the much higher cost of buying costumes, which can often be £50 or more per costume.

Exams
Do all students take dance exams?
Not necessarily. While many students choose to take exams, not every student in a class will be entered. Entry for exams is at the teacher’s discretion and depends on a child’s readiness, confidence, attendance and overall progress in class.

Why might a child not be entered for an exam?
Exams require a certain level of technical understanding and preparation. If a child is not quite ready yet, the teacher may recommend waiting until the next exam session to give them more time to develop or to skip an exam.
Our aim is always to ensure children have the best possible experience and chance of success.

Do students have to take exams to move up to the next class?
No. Taking an exam is not required to move up to the next class level.
Progression to the next class is decided by the teacher based on the child’s progress, technique, effort, and readiness.

Is there a fee to take a dance exam?
Yes. Exam fees are payable before the exam date. These fees help cover:
-
The official examiner’s fee
-
Exam registration costs
-
Studio or venue hire for exam day
-
Other organisational costs associated with running the exam session
Squad classes
How are students chosen for Squad classes?
Students are invited to join a Squad class at the teacher’s discretion.
Selection is based on several factors, including:
-
Effort and commitment in class
-
Strong behaviour and positive attitude
-
Good attendance and reliability
-
Willingness to work hard and improve
-
Technical ability and progress
Squad places are offered to students who consistently demonstrate these qualities.

Can parents request that their child joins a Squad class?
Squad classes are invitation-only, and places are offered by the teaching team. This helps ensure that the group works well together and that students are ready for the additional commitment.

If my child is in Squad this year, will they automatically stay in it next year?
Not necessarily. Squad places are reviewed regularly, and being in Squad one year does not guarantee a place the following year.
Students must continue to demonstrate the same level of commitment, effort, and behaviour in order to remain in the group.

What happens if a student misses Squad classes?
If a student frequently misses Squad sessions, their place in the group may be reviewed and could be offered to another student who is able to attend consistently. Squad classes rely on consistent attendance so that routines, training, and group work can progress effectively.
